Do you want to learn to type without constantly looking at the keyboard? Let's explore how to do this quickly and effectively! In this article, you'll find not only tips to improve your skills but also recommendations to increase your typing speed. If you follow the advice below, you'll soon be able to master touch typing!
Preparing to Type
Step 1. Choose the Right Keyboard.

The first thing you need to do is choose a keyboard that suits you best. The most common layout is "QWERTY". An alternative could be the Dvorak keyboard, designed with an emphasis on hand comfort. Although the "QWERTY" layout was created to improve the work of typists, it's not as relevant in the computer age. However, if you share your PC with someone else, changing keyboards can be inconvenient. In this article, we will focus on the "QWERTY" layout.
Step 2. Sit Properly.

It's important to sit correctly as it impacts your typing speed. If you're uncomfortable, you shouldn't expect high results.
- Your keyboard should be at elbow level or slightly higher to avoid strain on your hands.
- Sit up straight to prevent discomfort.
- Keep your feet flat on the floor for a comfortable position.
- Set up your workspace to be ergonomic.
Mastering Typing
Step 1. Memorize the Home Row Position.

Learn to position your fingers correctly on the keyboard. Your right index finger should be on the "O", while the other three fingers rest on "L", "D", and "J". The left index finger should be on "A", with the three neighboring fingers on "V", "Y", and "F".
Step 2. Type the Letters from Left to Right:

Begin typing the letters in this sequence: f y v a o l d j, keeping your fingers in the home position.
Step 3. Repeat with Capital Letters:

Now type the capital letters: F Y V A O L D J. Remember to hold down Shift, using your pinky to press it while the other fingers hit the required keys.
Step 4. Learn the Rest of the Letters' Positions.

Memorize where the other letters are located. It's important not only to memorize them but also to know which fingers to use.
- "Q", "F", and "Y" — for the left pinky; it also includes "Tab", "Caps Lock", and "Shift".
- "C", "Y", and "B" — for the left ring finger.
- "U", "H", and "N" — for the left middle finger.
- "K", "A", "M", "P", and "E" — for the left index finger.
- The thumbs always stay on the spacebar.
- "G", "T", "Y", "N", "R", and "H" — for the right index finger.
- "S", "L", and other keys for the right middle finger.
- "Z", "|", and other keys for the right ring finger.
- "X", "C", "Q", and other symbols for the right pinky.
Improving Your Typing Skills
Step 1. Set Your Hands in the Home Position.

Take the home position, then type the pangram: “Hey, barber, trim the hedgehog, and shave the bristles of that pig, drive the louse from behind the stove!”. This sentence contains all the letters of the Russian alphabet.
- Make sure your fingers return to the home position after pressing.
- Type slowly, gradually increasing your speed.
- Try to keep your gaze off the keyboard and focus on the screen.
- If it's hard not to look at the keyboard, cover it with a cloth.
Step 2. Memorize the Basic Typing Rules.
Typing is not a race; it's an engaging and simple process. So:
- Type carefully and confidently. Avoid accidentally pressing multiple keys at once.
- Don't press the keys too hard to prevent finger fatigue.
- Keep your wrists elevated for comfortable typing. If this is difficult, use a wrist rest or even a rolled-up towel.
Step 3. Keep Practicing.
Enhance your skills! There are many typing training applications available, both paid and free. But the best way to learn is to simply practice. Type for at least 10 minutes a day, and soon you'll notice how your skills improve!
- Include numbers and symbols in your text to increase the complexity and enhance your abilities.
