A concise guide to speeding through the airport without slowing down the line or getting into awkward situations.

Step 1: Purchase Your Flight Ticket in Advance
Purchase your flight ticket in advance online or at the airline's ticket counter. If buying online allows you to print your boarding pass, it's best to do so, especially if you’re not checking any baggage.
Step 2: Pack Wisely
Carefully pack your belongings, keeping in mind that you will only be allowed one checked bag in addition to a smaller carry-on bag. When packing liquids (lotion, shampoo, body oil, etc.) in your carry-on, make sure each container is no larger than 85 grams. Store all liquids together in a sealable plastic bag.
Step 3: Arrive Early
Arrive at the airport 2 to 3 hours before your flight's scheduled departure. This is essential in case of delays on your way to the airport, during check-in, or at security screening.
Step 4: Check Your Bags
Depending on the amount of luggage you have, you may need to check more than one bag. Locate your airline's check-in counter, marked with the appropriate symbols and logos outside the terminal in the departure area. Join the queue and wait for your turn. Typically, there should be a bin to ensure your bag is small enough to carry on; otherwise, it must be checked. Remember, you're allowed only one checked bag and one smaller carry-on. Be ready to present your ID.
Step 5: Present Your ID When Requested
When asked, present your identification. If you're checking bags, provide them for inspection when requested. The staff will mark them and either place them on the conveyor or ask you to bring them to the scanner. If you’re not checking bags, inform the staff. Regardless, they should return your boarding pass unless you printed it yourself during online check-in. If you checked in online and printed your documents, you can skip this step entirely.
Step 6: Approach the Security Checkpoint
Approach the security checkpoint at your departure gate. You'll meet a security officer who will check your boarding pass and ID before allowing you to proceed. Then, wait in line to pass through the X-ray machine and metal detector. You’ll need to place all your bags, metal items, and shoes on the conveyor for inspection. If you have any liquids in a sealable bag, take them out for separate scanning. If you have any items that may appear as boxes on the X-ray (like laptops or gaming consoles), take them out and scan them separately. Remove any jackets or hoodies, as they need to be scanned separately.
Step 7: Follow Security Instructions
The security officer will let you know when you can walk through the metal detector to the other side of the conveyor, where you can collect your belongings. Reassemble your items, put your shoes back on, and exit the checkpoint.
Step 8: You’re Now in the Secure Boarding Area
You are now in the secure area for boarding your flight. The gate numbers indicate where boarding for your flight takes place. The airline staff may have already announced your gate number; it may also be printed on your boarding pass or displayed on nearby screens. Find your gate by its number, which is typically clearly marked for passengers, so you shouldn't have any trouble spotting it.
Step 9: Wait by Your Gate
Take a seat near your gate and wait for the announcement that it’s time to board the plane.
Step 10: Boarding Announcement
The staff at the gate will announce the beginning of boarding and provide further instructions. As you approach the jet bridge, present your boarding pass. It will be scanned and returned to you. Sometimes, the staff may keep the stub part.
Step 11: Find Your Seat
Once on the plane, locate your seat and place your luggage in the overhead compartment. If you have a small bag and prefer to keep it with you, simply slide it under the seat in front of you so it doesn’t obstruct your legs.
