You can use foil or a metal screen, but you definitely need something that won’t burn and release toxic gases when heated. Foil is the best option. Cut a piece of foil slightly larger than the ceramic bowl and cover the bowl with it as if making a lid. Take a pin (be careful with it) and poke many small holes in the foil.
