With some simple foundational techniques, you can enhance your drawing skills.

Part 1

Step 1. Express Yourself.

Step 1

Express yourself. The best art emerges from your deep, authentic self. However, there's also value in "fan art" (drawings based on original works). Many artists start their creative journey by mimicking others' styles or even copying professional pieces. Remember, never pass off copied works as your own; do this solely for developing your artistic skills. Perfection comes with experience!

Step 2. Study Other Artists’ Work.

Step 2

Study other artists’ work. You can draw inspiration from them.

Step 3. Master Basic Artistic Techniques.

Step 3

Master basic artistic techniques. You probably already know to sketch the basic shapes first before gradually adding more details. This is a widely used technique that will greatly help you.

Step 4. Illustrate Your Idea in Multiple Versions.

Step 4

Illustrate your idea in multiple versions. For example, draw an object in different artistic styles, using various tools, or from different perspectives.

Step 5. Create Scenes:

Step 5

Create scenes: a bedroom, a farm, or a trash can with a rummaging homeless person. The possibilities are endless.

Step 6. Don’t Let Anyone Tell You What You Can’t Draw.

Step 6

Don’t let anyone dictate what you can’t draw. A common argument from critics is, "that has already been drawn before." If you want to create something that has been done before, why not?! Do it in your own style. Do it better! Such criticism is only valid if you are mindlessly imitating a model to draw attention to your work. (But even here there are exceptions: avoid depicting pornography or violent scenes in schools and other public places).

Step 7. Draw as Much as Possible.

Step 7

Draw as much as possible. Draw in a sketchbook, on a board, on the ground, with chalk, charcoal, on a computer, in Photoshop, in MS Paint. Draw with your eyes closed, draw with both hands, and even with your feet (warning: this is challenging). Draw the same things over and over. It’s your creativity, so do whatever you feel like!

Step 8. Never Doubt Yourself.

Step 8

Never doubt yourself. Whether you realize it or not, you will believe in everything you convince yourself of. Appreciate the works you like. Don’t compare yourself to other artists, but only to your earlier works.
