  • Remember that the points for shutting off water may vary depending on your plumbing configuration, so often it's enough to just turn off the water at the entrance to the house.

  1. First, locate the valves on the water pipes inside your home. They are usually found near the toilet or under the sink.
  2. Turn the knobs or valves to stop the water flow.

To completely shut off the water in your home, follow these steps: 1. If you are unsure where the outside water shut-off valve is, call your water utility company. Many homes have a water meter with a valve located next to it, often under a cover outside. 2. If you know the location of the valve, lift the cover. 3. Once you find the handle or valve with a metal flange, turn it all the way to stop the water flow completely.
