VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, enables you to make phone calls over the Internet to any phone worldwide. It's important to note that the phone you are calling does not need to be a VoIP device. Typically, using VoIP is cheaper than traditional phone services, and you can either keep your current number or select a new one with any area code in your country. Prices may vary.

Step 1. Purchase a VoIP adapter.
Visit a store and buy a VoIP adapter. Make sure that your phone is not a standard PSTN device unless it specifies that it supports VoIP or Skype. To connect an analog phone as a VoIP device, you will need to connect it to the VoIP adapter.
Step 2. Follow the instructions from your VoIP provider.
After purchasing the adapter, your VoIP provider should give you instructions on how to connect it. Some adapters need to be connected between your cable modem and your router or computer, while others connect directly to your router. Be sure to follow the provided guidelines.
Step 4. Connect your phone to the LINE 1 port of the adapter using a standard phone cable.
Step 5. Power on the adapter by connecting the power supply.
Connect the adapter to a power source by plugging the power cord into the back of the device and the other end into a wall outlet. For your phone service to work, the adapter must remain powered on at all times.
Step 6. Wait a few minutes for the adapter to boot up.
Step 7. Check for any required updates.
Sometimes updates may need to be downloaded, such as new firmware or feature changes. These updates are downloaded automatically, so do not interrupt this process by powering off or disconnecting the adapter from the provider’s modem.
Step 8. Pick up the handset and wait for the dial tone.
Lift the handset and wait until you hear the dial tone. If you hear a beep, it means the setup is complete and you are ready to make calls.
