Settled stones on patios often result from unreliable soil, typically due to a poorly organized drainage system. To permanently resolve this issue, it's crucial to stabilize the ground to prevent water accumulation. If your patio is located in a low-lying area, consider reconfiguring your outdoor space.

Step 1: Remove the problematic stone and all surrounding stones.
Step 2: Dig out the soil to a depth of 3 inches (if this is too labor-intensive for you, consider renting a mini-excavator like a "Bobcat").
Step 3: For effective drainage, add 2 inches of large stones.
Ensure that the stones are well levelled for proper drainage.
Step 4: Add 1-2 inches of sand or fine gravel.
Step 5: Use a straight edge to level the top layer, utilizing a level for accuracy.
Gently scrape away the top layer with the straight edge, using the level as a guide. Mound the sand slightly above the base of the stone tiles to account for potential settling.
Step 6: Replace the stones back into their positions.
Step 7: After laying the stones, add some sand between them and sweep away any excess with a broom. This will help prevent shifting and reduce weed growth between the slabs.
