Wheat is a staple crop on most agricultural lands, covering about 205 million hectares worldwide each year. Farmers typically choose between two types of wheat: winter or spring, planting them either in the fall or spring. Step 2. Prepare for planting winter wheat in the fall, about 6-8 weeks before the soil begins to freeze to ensure active root growth.
